(Toronto – April 5th, 2010) Based on Toronto’s most legendary strip, The Tale of a Town – Queen West is a truly unique look at this neighbourhood, merging live music, stock footage and oral histories of local icons to create a mulit-layered site-specific theatrical journey through the past 30 renowned years of Queen West.
The audience takes off with a promenade trip through the neighbourhood – starting from Theatre Passe Muraille, then winding around the new big box developments, through graffiti alley, past the fire site and into a devised model loft, a vintage clothing store and a local watering hole that resonates with the songs from the Cameron House.
The Tale of a Town – Queen West is being created, as we speak, with a top-line artistic team led by internationally trained performer/creator Lisa Marie DiLiberto, alongside 2010 JUNO nominated Treasa Levasseur (musical director), CBC Independent Radio Producer Charles Ketchabaw (video and sound design), Toronto’s most in-demand indie designer Lindsay Anne Black (set design), and pulled together by world renowned promenade theatre artist Varrick Grimes (director).
Beginning April 1st, the FIXT POINT team will hit the streets of Queen West scouring for stories that will inspire the creation of the play and the transformation of a reclaimed commercial space into an unconventional performance environment in only 30 days.
